Why work with Midnight Brief?
Perhaps you’re a brand that wants to benefit from the expertise of a veteran product reviewer and commerce writer to build consumer loyalty and trust.
Or maybe you’re a founder or executive aiming to become an influential figure in your field, with support from a passionate and skillful storyteller.
You might even be the head of the commerce vertical for a major media outlet seeking a pro who’s been crafting shopping content for nearly two decades.
If that sounds like you, let’s discuss how Midnight Brief can help you reach your goals (and then some).
Midnight Brief is a nod to the founder’s affinity for all things sleep and her career as a writer and editor, which has no doubt been loaded with project briefs. It’s also an homage to all the times she burned the midnight oil — but she’s a lot better about logging off and going to bed at a reasonable time these days.

Who is Midnight Brief?
Alison Barretta
Founder + Editorial Director
Content + Product Strategy
Capricorn Sun + Gemini Moon
Midnight Brief is Alison Barretta — a writer, editor, and product reviewer who’s been creating shopping content long before every legacy outlet launched a commerce vertical.
During the Great Recession in 2008, Alison landed a full-time role at a popular deal site, where for over 10 years she fired off short-form copy, crafted longer features, oversaw an international content team, and curated the best offers for millions of readers every month.
In 2019, Alison began her freelancing journey by writing hands-on skincare reviews for Business Insider, crafting deeply-researched buying guides for an emerging travel site, and ghostwriting accessible, informative blogs for skincare, wellness, and lifestyle brands, as well as a functional medicine practice.
These days, Alison’s main calling is sleep. She wrote her first mattress review in 2020, which has culminated in a vast library of detailed reviews, shopping guides, and expert-led features for outlets including Tom’s Guide, The Strategist, Forbes Vetted, U.S. News, and HGTV.
Alison aims to help people sleep better by connecting them with products and solutions that deliver real value, saving them time, money, and frustration. In 2025, she launched More Than Mattresses on Substack to expand her expertise and build an active community while creating a space to tell the stories she’s most passionate about.
Alison founded Midnight Brief Media & Consulting in 2025 to forge partnerships with brands that are keen to leverage the insights of a professional reviewer and career commerce writer who understands what drives consumers to purchase or pass. She’s also open to working with select media outlets that share her vision.
In 2026, Alison introduced a new service for shoppers called The Mattress Hunter. Consisting of a 30-minute video consultation plus a detailed summary of recommendations and other key notes, this consumer-facing service allows people to directly tap into Alison’s expertise as a professional mattress and sleep product tester.
When she’s not hovering over her M4 MacBook Air or sleeping (for work or otherwise!), Alison is hitting the ice with her D-league hockey squad, watching Formula 1 for the intense racing (and the memes), waiting for the Philadelphia Flyers to become competitive again, and seeking fun coffee shops in her area and beyond.
